Welcome to Technovation Nation!

What is Technovation?

Technovation is when Technology and Innovation converge.   Sometimes, that doesn't always happen.   When it does though; it's a beautiful thing. That's what we're about.

My name is Cam and I'm the Executive Vice President of Technovation at your credit union. I'm a very lucky person. I get to work with some of the best and brightest minds in the credit union industry. These minds have been hard at work developing some of the coolest technologies that will be coming your way soon.

Next month, we're going to be introducing our new online banking system called "MyVantage". Soon, I will be giving you preview glimpse of the system on our website through a series of screencast videos. Stay tuned....

It is my hope that through my blog, I will be able to educate, inform, and in some small way entertain you. I will be talking on a range of topics that are relevant to what we're doing and how this may affect you. Some topics I'm working on are:

  • Cool innovations we're working on.
  • What we're doing to keep your information safe and secure.
  • Ideas from industry experts on what you can do to protect yourself from those bad people whose sole purpose is to steal your identity and money.

Finally, I want to hear from you. After all, we work for you. Your comments are important to us.

So has anything come out to utilize online banking on the Iphone? I see that you were working on them but didnt know if it had been out yet.

Thanks

Jennifer

Not yet. We are testing a few options right now. If you want to access the MyVantage site from your iPhone, please contact us on live chat, by visiting a branch or by phone. We have an alternate URL that does work on the iPhone.

Thanks.

I would like to use mint.com for my finances but, Vantage is not set up as an account. Can somebody work with mint.com to add Vantage to their bank database.

Thanks

Rob,
Thank you for the comment. Mint is a great site, but we don't have any influence on what financial institutions Mint supports. Mint selects who they will support based on demand. We have had several members request support from Mint through their website and I would encourage you to do the same.

Here is the link to the submission form: http://www.mint.com/help/. Under subject, select: Please support my financial institution.

Thanks,
Matt

Well it looks like the Web2.0 buzz has caught on at Vantage. I'm glad that has happened so I could post a question.

Do you think you could get your "best and brightest minds in the credit union industry" to add things like mobile banking? Heck, I would even settle for elerts to let me know when activity has posted on my account. Other credit unions and banks have had that feature for years now. Will that feature be part of the MyVantage site?

And I don't like the new site. It is too busy. Takes too much time to find the info I am looking for.

Thanks for allowing me to post feedback. I won't be surprised if this never gets posted though!

@Mac

Thank you for your comments and questions. I hope you're surprised (pleasantly) to see your comments posted. We mean it when we say that we want to hear your comments (good and bad). That being said, let me respond.

Mobile Banking - We're cookin' up some mobile banking stuff. We're looking at some different options. It's doubtful that we'll have something out this year. We didn't want to take the traditional approach to mobile banking which is to basically take the same features in the online banking system and shrink them down into the phone. That's just not practical in my opinion. Yes, you'll be able to see your balances, do transfers, etc. However, the main inspiration for our mobile banking strategy is to save our members time. Instead of having menus and such, we want to make the experience efficient and fast. For example, more than likely you wouldn't use your phone to pay all your bills each month like you would using the online system. However, you might use it to make those quick payments. For example, I forgot to pay my babysitter or utility payment, etc. There are many types of phones to consider. Additionally, what we don't have on the phone that we do have with a PC is real estate. On the phone, we have very little space to play with. Therefore, we want to maximize it. Foremost, we want to make the experience relevant. We're also going to be developing some applications for some of the SmartPhones where we can be a bit more creative. We're loving the iPhone. We've got some radical stuff we're doing with the iPhone.

We are going to be rolling out a whole online banking system on April 13th. Through that system, you will be able to setup account alerts to notify you of account activity. The new online banking system is going to be a whole new and dare I say "awesome" experience. Not only will this catch us up with our brethren but I believe will take us ahead of the pack. Soon, I will be publishing some screencasts on the features of the new system. Stay tuned and I hope you'll let me know what you think.

In regards to the website. Our approach was to blend old and new school into one system. For example, the "My Money" area is really where the old traditional stuff is. You can get rate information, log on to your accounts online, access calculators, etc. The "My Credit Union" area is our way to let you know what's going on with us. In a fast pace world, things are changing all the time. Rather than teach our writers on how to program in HTML, we wanted to create a system in which they can focus more on the content than the geek stuff. Foremost, we wanted to open ourselves up so that we can exchange in open discussions thus allow folks like yourself to respond. In some cases, we may write articles that have no relevance to some but will have to others. Either way, we want to know. We want to write about the things that are important to you not so much us. The third piece is the "My Life". Traditional websites try to be all things to all people. That's what I don't like about traditional websites. I want to see what's relevant to me and not see a web page that is geared to large demographic. We're all at different stages in our lives. "My Life" is where you can go to see content that is a bit more granular and hopefully relevant.

If the three sections are not your thing. We spent some time on improving the search capabilities. You should be able to find most of what your looking for by using the search feature. We will continue to tweak this so that it gets better over time.

Finally, it's our hope that there is a bit of something for everyone. We realize that not everyone may agree with how we did it. However, we feel that is a great first step and just the beginning of things to come.
