And speaking of new, here’s to a new direction for the economy in 2009. As we’re all aware, it’s been in a historic slump. Housing is down. The stock market is down. The only thing that seems to be up is unemployment. But these are the exact times when we must stiffen our collective backs, take a deep breath and press on.

Times like these often raise questions, so I’d like to calm any fears you may have about your financial institution; Vantage had a positive 2008 considering the current economic climate. Deposits remain strong and we experienced the best year we’ve ever had in loan growth. We had no need for a government bailout of any kind, and we’re still busy lending to our members, helping them enrich their lives.

Of course, 2008 didn’t come without its share of challenges, but a solid business plan and strong leadership has us positioned for just such valleys in the economic landscape. It may take some time before we see a steady upturn in the key economic indicators, that’s why it’s so important for us all to work together and underscore the strength associated with being part of a financial cooperative. Together we can do it!

I would be remiss if I didn’t also underscore the importance of our membership. Each and every member remains a very important cog in the machine of our continued success. We recently surpassed a very noteworthy milestone when we added member number 100,000. We continue to grow in size and, more importantly, strength. Your trust and commitment to the credit union has created a solid foundation on which we continue to grow, even in more difficult times. I applaud each and every member for such solid commitment to your credit union.

We all look forward to better times as 2009 proceeds. After considering how well we’ve weathered this economic storm together thus far, I remain extremely optimistic that better times are not far off.
