April 13, 2005
ST. LOUIS – Vantage Credit Union, like many others
around the country, celebrated National Credit Union Youth Week (NCUYW), April
17-23. NCUYW offers credit unions an opportunity to stress the benefits of
credit union membership to young members and to enlighten them and their
parents of the importance of saving money early in life.
Throughout
April, youths 0-18 were encouraged through newsletters, postcards and flyers to
visit their VCU branch and deposit money into their account. For a minimum deposit, each was entered into
a random drawing for one of ten $25 or $50 gift cards to local merchants.
During NCUYW, as an added bonus, they received a coin pouch, ID holder, or a Want
It…Save It…Get It! collectible
bracelet and literature on saving money.
The youth week slogan Want It...Save
It...Get It! emphasizes the concept of creating a goal for something you
want, saving for the item, and then reaping the benefits when you accomplish
your goal of getting the item.
In addition to April activities, Vantage employs a
full-time Community Education Specialist who offers free financial literacy
presentations to schools and community groups year-round. To learn about the program or to schedule a
presentation contact us at 314.298.0055 or 800.522.6009.
